Praise and pats on the back! There are many things to celebrate -- awards, achievements, new lessons, blog posts. Please post them here. Monett celebrates what happened in their 2013-14 school year:
emphasis on writing in middle school
worked collaboratively to develop research based unit wrote poetry in French class
added extra writing class for freshmen--more writing time
did more modeling
built first unit for the year using strategies learned in CRWP The new teachers in Monett are excited about the following:
cross-curricular learning and strategies
connections to life
looking forward to spending time with writing and writers
Laquey celebrates what happened in their 2013-14 school year:
Exit slip comments from students at the end of the year were very positive, indicating that students felt better about writing.
The strategies employed were effective.
Implementing more daily writing, including writing prompts, help students be comfortable. The pressure of grading was off which increased writing fluency, and it took stress off the teacher.
A transition from "Do I have to write?" to "Do I get to write?" Students felt safe to write without the pressure of critique.
Appreciated being able to watch someone else teach.
Students evaluated their writing with a holistic scoring guide and noted improvement. Laquey is excited about the following:
